Y STRAINERS

Stayflow Y strainers mechanically remove solids from flowing steam, gases or liquid piping systems with the use of a perforated or wire mesh straining screen, and are used to protect equipment.  They get their names from their configuration, which includes a branch angled off the flow path.

Y strainers are most often used for steam and gases, but are occasionally used for liquids.  They have less debris holding capacity and higher pressure drops than basket strainers, but they can be used in either  horizontal or vertical pipe runs where flow is downwards.  They can also be fitted with a blow-off connection at the end of the branch end that includes a valve, which allows for cleaning.  The valve is opened without shutting off the flow or disassembling the strainer, as the flow through the pipe will flush out the solids in the screen.

 

These strainers are usually supplied in one of four materials: iron, carbon steel, bronze, or stainless steel.   Iron is used most often because it costs the least, and has good corrosion resistance in many services.  Carbon steel is used where higher temperatures, or concern with thermal or mechanical shock is an issue, which makes them popular in the oil and petrochemical industries.  Bronze handles thermal and mechanical shock better than iron, and is better in some corrosive applications, but is limited in temperature range.  Stainless steel is needed where corrosion could be an issue, and is widely used in the chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries.

 

They are provided with a variety of end connections, including threaded, flanged, and welded.  Standard screens are provided for either steam service or WOG (water, oil, gas) service, but other screens are available on request.

YIFD1/2 IRON Y STRAINERS - The Model YIFD is a made-in-the-USA cast iron Y strainer that has drilled flanges that are in accordance with ASME B16.1. The YIFD1 is 150# class, and the YIFD2 is 300# class. Different size perforations and meshes are available in stainless steel, monel, and brass to meet specific media requirements. For steam, water, oil or gas service. Meets or exceed government specification WW-S-2739. 2" to 20" diameters.


YCF1/2/3 STEEL Y STRAINERS - The Model YCF is a carbon steel Y strainer that has drilled flanges that are in accordance with ASME B16.5. The YCF1 is 150# class, the YCF2 is 300# class, and the YCF3 is 600# class. Different size perforations and meshes are available in stainless steel, monel, and brass to meet specific media requirements. For steam, water, oil or gas service. 1/2" to 12" diameters.


YCW 1/2/3 STEEL Y STRAINERS - The Model YCW is a carbon steel Y strainer that has weld ends. The YCW1 is 150# class, the YCW2 is 300# class, and the YCW3 is 600# class. Different size perforations and meshes are available in stainless steel, monel, and brass to meet specific media requirements. For steam, water, oil or gas service. 1/2" to 12" diameters.


YSF1/2/3 STAINLESS Y STRAINERS - The Model YSF is a 316 stainless steel Y strainer that has drilled flanges that are in accordance with ASME B16.5. The YSF1 is 150# class, the YSF2 is 300# class, and the YSF3 is 600# class. YSW1/2/3 STAINLESS Y STRAINERS - The Model YSW is a 316 stainless steel Y strainer that has weld ends. The YSW1 is 150# class, the YSW2 is 300# class, and the YSW3 is 600# class. YBF1/2 BRONZE Y STRAINERS - The Model YBF is a bronze Y strainer that has drilled flanges that are in accordance with ASME B16.5. The YBF1 is 150# class, and the YBF2 is 300# class. Different size perforations and meshes are available in stainless steel, monel, and brass to meet specific media requirements. For steam, water, oil or gas service. 1/2" to 12" diameters.


YBS BRONZE Y STRAINERS - The Model YBS is a bronze Y strainer with solder joint female sweat ends in accordance with ASME B16.18. For liquid (WOG) service. 1/4" to 2" diameters.


YBT BRONZE Y STRAINERS - The Model YBT is a bronze Y strainer with female NPT thread ends. For steam, water, oil or gas service. 1/2" to 3" diameters.


YIT IRON Y STRAINERS - The Model YIT is a cast iron made in the USA Y strainer that has female NPT thread ends, and is 300# class. Different size perforations and meshes are available in stainless steel, monel, and brass to meet specific media requirements. For steam, water, oil or gas service. 1/2" to 2" diameters.


YITD IRON THREADED Y STRAINERS - The Model YITD is a cast iron made in the USA Y strainer that has female NPT thread ends, and is 300# class. Different size perforations and meshes are available in stainless steel, monel, and brass to meet specific media requirements. For steam, water, oil or gas service. 1/2" to 2" diameters.


YCT1 & YCS1 STEEL Y STRAINERS - The Model YCT1 and YCS1 are carbon steel Y strainers that are 600# class. The YCT1 has female NPT thread ends, and the YCS1 has socket weld ends. Different size perforations and meshes are available in stainless steel, monel, and brass to meet specific media requirements. For steam, water, oil or gas service. 1/4" to 3" diameters.


YST1 & YSS1 STAINLESS Y STRAINERS - The Model YST1 and YSS1 are 316 stainless steel Y strainers that are 600# class. The YST1 has female NPT thread ends, and the YSS1 has socket weld ends. YP & YC PVC-CPVC STRAINERS - The Model YP and YC strainers are made from PVC and CPVC respectively, and they are available with socket (YPS/YCS), SR Thread (YPT/YCT), or flanged (YPF/YCF) connections. Used in PVC & CPVC piping systems. 1/2" to 4" diameters.
